I have in my collection a 1 Sou from Montreal that was issued by the Banque du Peuple. It was actually issued in 1838 to replace the 'Rebellion Sou' of 1837,which depicts a star & a liberty cap.

I am trying to find out what the word 'Peuple' means when translated from Quebecois into English.I know that 'Banque du' means 'Bank of',as the Bank of Canada's notes are inscribed in its Quebecois form 'Banque du Canada'.

If you can answer my question (in English please),I would gladly appreciate it.

Aidan.

Lightw4re,thanks for that.So 'Banque du Peuple' literally means 'Bank of People',or figuratively 'People's Bank'.Am I right?
