M'énerve, celui-là, avec sa désignation de « medal coin ». Cette pièce d'un dollar de 1987 ne fut pas émise pour la circulation générale, j'en conviens. Mais elle existe cependant dans les séries hors-circulation ainsi qu'en format épreuve. Elle n'a donc rien à voir avec une médaille.

Une médaille est une pièce de métal commémorative frappée en l'honneur d'un personnage ou d'un évennement et ne porte pas de dénomination.. ref: Monnaies du Canada par J.A. Haxby et R.C. Willey

The 1987 Voyageur $1 is a medal-coin,as it was only issued in sets,& the sets were issued at a premium above the face value.

The Canadian 1987 set that I picked up for NZ$10 had a damaged pocket for the 25c. coin,so I decided to take the $1 & put it into a plastic flip.Eventually,I will be buying up some P.V.C.-free coin flips & putting all my coins into those with cards containing information about each coin.

So,what did you think of my 1987 Voyageur $1? We don't see many Voyageur $1 coins over here in New Zealand (Nouvelle Zelande) at all.The 1987 never seems to turn up either over here or as a single coin over there in Canada.Am I right?

Dear Aiden, OK thanks for the info. Yes it has been issued in set only and the mintage was 212.136 copy. The history is good per you say but I don't see it as scarce coin. I can have it for 6-10$ can. as a set or individual coin. It could be scarce in New Zealand but the Charlton evluate it MS-65 $8.

I've always regarded any coin & medal-coin that has a mintage of 999,999 coins or less as being scarce.How many collectors of Canadian coins will ever get to see,let alone,own an example of the 1987 Voyageur $1? Not many,I would think.

The 1987 Voyageur $1 was intended to have been issued as a currency coin,but the dies were lost in transit somewhere between Ottawa & Winnipeg,as the dies were engraved at the Royal Canadian Mint's Ottawa branch,& they were needed at the Winnipeg branch mint.

Dear Aiden, I did some research and in fact the six coin nickel brillant uncirculated sets 1987 where the one nickel voyageur dollar were the last year to be coined or issued. The bronze Loonie became the replacement in 1987 til now. I was wonder why the voyageur nickel was retired now I know.
Now I see your viewpoint.
I think I will order it.
