Re: Acquisition Breton 511

I know this discussion took place some time ago but I noticed it with interest and may be able to add some information. The Franco American Jetons were struck over a period of years at the end of the reign of Louise 15th. there were stuck for the years of 1751 to 1757. they were popular at the time ...

Re: Courteau - The St. George Copper Tokens

Hello again my friend. I see you are working on the BUC material still. If you are interested in errors in this series I may be able to help you. Last year when I sent you pictures of my C/S BUC I did not include any of the Errors that I have in my collection, and I did not send all the examples of ...

Re: Devons and Bolton

On rereading your post I believe you may be referring to Bank of Upper Canada tokens. If so I may be able to furnish you with a few other examples from my collection. let me know if this would be of interest to you. Personally I find the most difficult thing for me is understanding how to grade them...

Re: Devons and Bolton

I am sorry but I am not sure what you mean by colonial tokens in this context. do you mean all colonial tokens circulated in Canada or some subset of them. from my experience D & B counterstamps on Canadian token are plentiful. The American tokens are abundant in this group and the most difficul...

By the way, if we knew the owner of the LC-55 we might be able to persuade him or her to let us compare them directly as this would be a good basis for a research article. Safarijim

Re: Jeton R.W. Owen Montreal Ropery 1824 (LC-18 / Breton #564)

Sounds like we need to get together at some meeting and let you have a closer look at the Owen c/f. There is no way it is a electrotype of a true Owen as the images are just not correct. That said it could still be a spliced token from two haves, so I will have to send you a shot of the edge when I ...

Re: Jeton R.W. Owen Montreal Ropery 1824 (LC-18 / Breton #564)

I have to agree that it is the most likely option and the fact that the LC -55 is probably a concoction makes it all the more likely that he might have made the Owen's as well. When I have time, I will send a picture off to Chris Faulkner who I have had occasional discussions with and see if he has ...

Re: Jeton R.W. Owen Montreal Ropery 1824 (LC-18 / Breton #564)

thanks for your comments. Firstly I cannot comment on what Doug Robins may have thought as I purchased this after his death so I never had a chance to discuss it with him. Secondly I have concerns the sailing ship and it's likeness. It is hard to say from the picture in Charlton whether they are sim...

after a bit of a wait I have the information you were looking for on the counterfeit Ropery token. it is 6.1 g in wt and 26 mm in diameter. itis very poor in likeness to the original but when it was sold as real it would have been hard for people to have had a likeness of a genuine token to refer to...

Hello again. First of all let me say how glad I am to have found your series of posts. I have found them most interesting and have really sparked my interest in a new direction or two. I had missed them as I had only looked at the English side in numicanada.com and that side pales by comparison to t...

Re: Jetons Vexator Canadiensis - Variété VC-1 &+

Not that I am aware of. they are all catalogued by Courteau numbers and I have not looked at every one so I cannot say for sure but I have not seen any evidence of proofs of other special types. It is a useful collection for research and I will have to read your book to see your take on the series. ...
